There is a lot of misinformation out there about theft, robbery and burglary charges. They are not the same thing, and people are often charged with more than one crime at once. I will clear the air and explain your options:

  • Robbery: A crime in which one party takes something from someone directly, usually by force. You could face robbery charges for something as minor as a pair of event tickets if taken from someone's person.
  • Burglary: These charges involve entering someone's dwelling or business with the purpose of committing any type of felony inside, including theft.
  • Theft: From retail theft to white collar crimes, such as welfare fraud or embezzlement, theft charges are brought against people for any type of stealing.

The prosecution may face a heavy burden to make these charges stick. In robbery cases, they usually need a victim to show up and point out the defendant. Burglary charges are often brought based on circumstantial evidence. If they are unable to prove you were in the house or business in question, it is not burglary. I know all the aspects of these laws, and I will make sure your rights are protected.

Aggravating Factors

If a robbery was committed with a firearm of any kind, you will receive an automatic five to ten year sentence if convicted. In the case of robbery charges, it does not matter whether you were using a real gun or a replica. The consequences are the same.
